描述: [1500.0] PA announced "GPS failure drill — all bridge team to navigation stations". OOW reported simulated GPS signal loss on both receivers to Master, who immediately proceeded to bridge and assumed command. OOW changed auto pilot to manual steering.
[1501.0] Helmsman switched steering reference from gyro compass to magnetic compass. Deviation card consulted for ship's current heading: deviation +2° East at 235°. Magnetic course calculated and passed to helmsman: "Steer 233° magnetic". Manual steering engaged with quartermaster on the wheel.
[1503.0] Last reliable GPS position plotted — position marked at 1500LT with time annotation. Dead reckoning (DR) commenced from last known position: course 235° True, speed 12 knots. DR position advanced on chart every 6 minutes by OOW. Set and drift from tidal stream atlas applied.
[1505.0] Radar position fixing initiated: parallel indexing set up using radar overlay on ECDIS (with GPS feed disconnected, ECDIS showing DR mode). Two radar conspicuous points identified on coastline: headland at bearing 315° True range 8.2nm and lighthouse at bearing 278° True range 6.5nm. Position circle plotted.
[1507.0] Three-bearing fix obtained using gyro compass (still operational, only GPS failed): bearings taken on charted lighthouse, radio mast and headland. Position lines plotted on paper chart with cocked hat of 0.3nm — acceptable for coastal navigation. Position verified at 1506LT — minor discrepancy of 0.2nm from DR position.
[1510.0] AIS target information cross-referenced for position verification: three vessels with known positions from their AIS transmissions used as moving reference points. AIS data confirmed ship's position consistent with radar fix. AIS CPA/TCPA alarms verified functional and monitored.
[1512.0] Celestial navigation backup prepared: sextant box opened and sextant checked for index error (IE = 0.5' on the arc). Nautical Almanac opened to current date. Chronometer checked against WWV time signal via MF/HF radio — error +1.5 seconds. Sun altitude observation scheduled for next meridian passage.
[1515.0] Echo sounder monitoring intensified: depth readings continuously compared with charted depths along planned track. Depth at current position: 42 metres — consistent with charted depth of 40 metres for position, confirming DR accuracy. Echo sounder shallow water alarm set at 30 metres.
[1518.0] Gyro compass performance verified: comparing gyro heading with magnetic compass heading (applying deviation and variation). Difference of 0.5° — within acceptable tolerance. Gyro repeaters on bridge wings checked for synchronisation with master gyro. All repeaters confirmed aligned.
[1521.0] Navigation warning issued on VHF Ch.16: "All ships, MV LXH, position approximately XX°XX'N XXX°XX'E, experiencing GPS signal loss, navigating by radar and visual bearings, please keep clear". AIS text message updated to reflect GPS failure status.
[1524.0] Second Officer verified all radio communication equipment in normal condition per SOLAS Ch.IV. MF/HF DSC, VHF DSC, NAVTEX and Inmarsat-C all confirmed operational (none dependent on GPS for basic function). NAVTEX receiver re-checked for navigation warning updates.
[1527.0] GPS antennae inspected: No.1 and No.2 GPS antennae on monkey island checked for physical damage or obstruction (simulation — no damage found). GPS cable connections checked at antenna and receiver ends — all secure. GPS receivers reset and re-initialised — signal acquisition in progress.
[1530.0] Alternative position fixing methods tested: radar range and bearing to charted objects; depth contour navigation using echo sounder; visual bearings from bridge wing with azimuth circle; transit bearings between charted objects. All methods confirmed producing consistent position within 0.5nm.
[1533.0] GPS receivers both re-acquired satellite signals after simulated reset and are showing normal operation with 3D fix, HDOP < 2.0. Positions compared with DR and radar fix — GPS positions within 0.1nm of calculated positions. GPS feed reconnected to ECDIS and radar — systems restored to normal.
[1536.0] ECDIS verified in normal navigation mode with GPS input confirmed healthy. All manual navigation records completed and signed. Bridge watch resumed normal configuration with auto pilot re-engaged.
[1539.0] Master held brief drill debriefing on bridge with all bridge team members. After-action review: GPS failure detection, magnetic compass changeover, DR accuracy, radar fixing technique, and speed of alternative navigation establishment. Celestial navigation skills noted as requiring further practice.
[1543.0] All navigation systems confirmed restored to full functionality: GPS x2, ECDIS, radar overlay, AIS, VDR all operating normally. Bridge watch handed over with full briefing on drill and system status.
评估: The GPS failure drill was conducted in accordance with SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 19, SQP-06/EMG-24 procedures followed. Performance rated satisfactory with recommendation for increased celestial navigation practice.
